The Influence Seminar: Building Relationships at Work – Winter 2017

Best suited for administrators, business owners, direct reports, managers, supervisors and team leaders who are working to:
• Clearly communicate their expectations of others
• Galvanize their sales force
• Manage the people side of change
• Engage others in developing productive working relationships

Think about your place in the world. What part do you play in shaping your relationships at work? Do you ask or do you command? How influential are you? Building influential workplace relationship is about taking responsibility with an understanding of positional power, emotion, and interpersonal dynamics. Becoming more influential begins with figuring out what you are doing now.

Seminar participants are part of a diverse learning cohort of professionals who want to be more effective at building relationships at work. Special attention is given to debriefing weekly practice of at least one specific communication skill or strategy of their choosing. Each person benefits from their own practical workplace experience as well as the experience of other cohort members.

Session I — February 1, 2017: Your Social Influence Profile
• Clarify how a current relationship could benefit from more effective communication.
• Select at least one skill or key idea to put into practice immediately.

Session II — February 8, 2017: Listening & Awareness
• Assess the effectiveness of your current approaches to listening at work.
• Describe how shifting a current listening approach could enhance a significant work relationship.

Session III — February 15, 2017: Interpersonal Dynamics
• Describe how emotional awareness could help build or rebuild an essential work relationship.
• Identify one specific non-verbal behavior to put into immediate practice.

Session IV — February 22, 2017: Accountability
• Identify 1 current situation where a change in perspective could shift its outcome.
• Reassess your current areas of influence and describe a strategy for rebuilding an important work relationship.
