Influence: Mastering Conversations that Matter and Move

March 4, 2016 @ 8:00 AM - March 29, 2016 @ 9:30 AM

Influence is “the power to change or affect someone or something : the power to cause changes without directly forcing them to happen.”For those of us who believe we don’t have enough of it, influence is often associated with being manipulated for personal gain by someone or something corrupt and dishonest. No matter what you believe about influence, it is hard-wired into every human interaction.

Conversation is the primary means of human interaction. Conversation is an “exchange of sentiments, observations, opinions, or ideas”2. Whether actual or virtual, nonverbal or verbal, we influence the way in which others respond to us, and the way in which we respond to one another through conversation.

INFLUENCE: MASTERING CONVERSATIONS THAT MATTER AND MOVE is a course focused on improving influence and effectiveness in your conversation with others. For example:

  •  -Managing and motivating them
  •  -Presenting and getting buy-in on new projects
  •  -Giving productive feedback
  •  -Running effective meetings
  • – Implementing change initiatives
  •  -Resolving performance issues

Participants learn and practice an immediately applicable, remarkably simple, set of communication concepts and tools while interacting in small group activities. The course is experiential, physically active and self-reflective. It relies on participants’ willingness to commit to applying what is learned; then sharing outcomes of that application during the next class session.

Specific topics of conversation include:

  •  -Trust
  •  -Spontaneity
  • – Listening & Awareness
  •  -Verbal and Nonverbal behavior
  •  -Storytelling
  •  -Presence & Performance

As a result of participating in this course you experience…

  1. 1. Increased self-confidence communicating with yourself and others;
  2. 2. Greater flexibility adapting to new circumstances;
  3. 3. Enhanced decision-making clarity;
  4. 4. Accelerated problem-solving capacity; and
  5. 5. Heightened awareness of your influence and effectiveness at work.
